How to Read HP Laserjet Serial Numbers

HP printers have long been a popular choice for business and personal use. While these printers can provide excellent service when they are properly used and maintained, there are times when you will need to contact HP customer service to have the printer repaired. When that happens, you will need to first locate your printer's serial number. Having the serial number available when you call will make it easier to get the service you need from the company.

Instructions

Physical Inspection

1

Look for a small white label affixed to the back of the printer. The serial number tag is often just above the power cord. You may need a magnifying glass and a bright light source to read the tag. Be sure you are looking at the serial number; HP printers will also have tags showing the model number and date the printer was manufactured.

2

If the tag is not legible, use the printer's control panel to print a configuration page. Press the "Menu" button on the printer's control panel until you get to the "Information" menu. Scroll through the options until you see the "Print Configuration Page" option. Press the "Select" key to start printing the page.

3

The configuration page will contain the unit's serial number, which is usually the second item on the list.

From Your Computer

4

Log on to your computer and click on the "Start" button. Choose "Control Panel" from the menu and double click on "Printers and Faxes."

5

Select the printer in question.

6

Right click on the printer and choose "Properties" from the menu. Click on the "Print test page" button to send a test page to the printer.

7

Check the test page you printed from your computer. The page will contain the unit's serial number, which is usually the second item on the list.
